Hamdok: "War in Sudan Cannot Be Solved by the Gun"

In a recent statement, Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, the head of the Democratic Coordination Council "Taqaddam," emphasized that the war in Sudan will not be resolved through military means. He stressed that no one will emerge victorious from this conflict, no matter how long it continues.

Hamdok called for a comprehensive political process that addresses the root causes of the crisis, including a humanitarian response, political dialogue, and reconstruction. He also urged the creation of an on-ground monitoring mechanism to observe and report violations by both parties involved in the conflict.

Addressing the ongoing devastation in Sudan, Hamdok described the situation as "unprecedented," with nearly two years of bloodshed and destruction leaving millions of people displaced, homeless, or dead. He condemned the atrocities committed, including killings, displacement, and violence based on identity, describing them as an attempt to erase Sudan's identity and history.

Hamdok urged the international and regional communities to exert more pressure on the warring factions to halt the violence and return to negotiations. He emphasized that Sudanese citizens are the ones most capable of resolving the crisis, but international support will be critical in achieving a ceasefire and restoring peace.

Additionally, Hamdok warned against legitimizing any government formed after the October 2021 coup, calling for a legitimate political process to restore stability. He further outlined the need for a unified civilian front that champions peace, democracy, and justice, ensuring a stable future for Sudan.

Hamdok concluded by stressing the importance of justice and accountability, calling for a robust legal system to hold those responsible for crimes against the Sudanese people accountable. He reiterated that Sudan’s future depends on peace and that this war cannot be won with guns.
