Sudanese Army Commits War Crimes by Deliberately Targeting Innocent Civilians with Toxic Gas Attacks

In a blatant violation of international law, the Sudanese army, led by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has carried out horrific attacks using missiles loaded with toxic gases against innocent civilians in northern Khartoum Bahri. These deliberate strikes targeted the Engineers’ Residential Area and the refinery workers' sites in Jili, leading to numerous injuries and leaving dozens of workers and residents suffering from severe suffocation and unconsciousness.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attacks were not random; they were clearly aimed at civilians who have no involvement in the ongoing conflict. The scene was described as tragic, with civilians gasping for air as they were overwhelmed by the toxic chemicals deployed by the military with clear intent to harm.

Devastating Humanitarian Impact This attack has created a humanitarian disaster, as civilians, including families living in the residential area, were subjected to life-threatening conditions. Many suffered from mass suffocation due to the deliberate and unlawful use of chemical weapons by the Sudanese army. These actions have left long-lasting physical and psychological damage on the victims, who now face uncertain futures due to the army’s reckless disregard for human life.

Flagrant Legal Violations The use of chemical weapons is classified as a war crime under international law, including the Chemical Weapons Convention. The Sudanese army’s actions represent a gross violation of these international treaties, showing a complete disregard for the protection of civilians. Legal experts stress that the Sudanese military’s use of such banned weapons calls for immediate legal accountability and prosecution of those responsible for these atrocities.

Urgent Call for International Action We urgently call on the international community and human rights organizations to take immediate action and investigate these heinous crimes. The United Nations and other international bodies must impose severe sanctions on the Sudanese army and those individuals responsible for intentionally targeting civilians with chemical weapons. These war crimes cannot go unpunished, and the world must act now to protect the innocent and ensure justice for the victims in Sudan.
